Just yesterday my dad and I both did this Political compass test to see what are political ideologies are. And the results were what i thought they were gonna be. I did the test before my dad just to see what i got so not to see what he gets then change my answers to be more like him and i told him to do the test after i did mine without saying anything about what i got. We both got in the Left wing of Social Liberalism and very close to one another. By me doing it first just show that even not really talking about politics with my dad that his own beliefs have been passed to me even when him being much older than myself. I would like to assume that this result is the most common among people with kids just by how the parents raise the kid and set certain morals which are like their own. I agree with what this compass test results for what my dad and I got and it makes sense with how we deal the type of question they asked in the test and it makes sense with my out look on life.

here is my test results

Individuality in the Work Place

Posted: January 27, 2012 in World

In an article I was reading, it talks about how people in work places in multinational corporations are not as globalized as most people think.   This quotation here practically sums up my point,

Globalization, we should know by now, is not quite the simple process some gurus led us to believe it would be. National differences and identities have not been eliminated; not all employees are the same.

In my own opinion,  I assume that most people when they travel if they say walk into a McDonalds any away from their home they expect it to be exactly the same as at home. But that’s never the case. In some cases as in like neighbouring countries of Europe or like Canada and the United States is pretty much the same but not like for example Japan and Canada. I have been to Japan and went to their McDonalds and it is a huge change. To me i got the impression that they actually liked and cared about their job as to the feeling i get around here that the workers have a “whatever” like attitude. It is that each of our cultures are extremely different and the work places have adapted to the social norms of that society so that they can get maximal profit. Globalization has had its effects all around the world but i do not think it has the effect that some people make it seem. Nationalism is opposing it especially in the work place because of everybody is different and every state is different, all multinational companies need to think of that because if they use the same regime all around the world they will only make money in the country they started. Each country has there own needs and they just have to adapt to those needs not try to make them need stuff that they want them to need.

The Game of Politics

Posted: January 21, 2012 in Uncategorized

Political advertisement in the United States has always been very big, but how about now when there is no limit to how much they can spend on it? In this article here explains that the Citizens United has won a supreme courts voting that political parties now have no limit to how much they are allowed to spend on their campaigns.  Two points brought up in this article by which it seems that explain with the unlimited spending that now it is that people with big wallets now can control or corrupt politicians.

First, Citizens United announced the fiction that a candidate can be corrupted if a corporation gives him money for his election, but there is no risk of corruption if corporations spend that same money to support the candidate’s election. So if Massey Coal gives $10,000 to a candidate to spend on his campaign, the candidate might feel improperly in their debt and pay that debt back through corrupt political favors. But if Massey Coal spends $1 million on political ads to support his election, five members of the Supreme Court said that the elected beneficiary of that spending wouldn’t be improperly indebted to his corporate benefactor.

Second, Citizens United says that our democratic government is not corrupted when those who can afford to spend huge sums of money on behalf of candidates have influence over or access to elected officials, and that the appearance of influence and access will not cause Americans to lose faith in their democracy.

There is no difference between giving someone money towards helping their campaign as to their advertisement. Both lead to the same outcome of the politician maybe feeling like they should pay back the person or company in favors. I don’t know how the five members of the supreme court could not have seen this. And the second part just shows that if a person is of the 1% of Americans who have the ability to throw their money around to help influence who they want just means that now in America it is possible to buy an election legally. One of the worst parts is you don’t even have to put your own name out when you give money towards a campaign. I believe that if they were to give money that their name should be said to the public or be able to be accessed by the public.

This is not what democracy is about. How much money is used in ads should not be unlimited because of then there will be always people who wont be able to advertise as much as another with more money. There should be a limit to stop people with lots of money getting a more say than someone without. Money should not be involved in how politicians get elected.

As for the past few years the amount of money being used in the ad campaigns has risen but now with an unlimited amount has turned politics into a game of who has the most money has the most power towards an election. And now  the general public has even less of a say compared to people with money, democracy has turned into a game.
